The Armour Outlasted the War

Sometimes I naturally find a little flow. A spark of creativity, a quiet rush, a flood of ideas.

But as I get deeper into that flow, I start to feel overwhelmed. Anxious, even.

With a bit of self-reflection, self awareness and self compassion, I noticed I was experiencing thoughts like:

“This is a bit much now.”

“It’s a silly little idea — don’t get carried away.”

These thoughts were not my voice.

But to really hear those thoughts, I had to sit with the overwhelm.

I had to meet it with love. Open arms and ears. And listen.

That version of me… the one sprinting toward something new… she was still wearing armour and holding a sword. She was running towards what she wanted and had no idea she was also fighting it away when it tried to embrace her.

But the truth is:

Her armour outlasted the war.

The war is over.

Peace lives here now.

Overwhelm, anxiety, self-doubt all they still knock. And peace answers the door. Love welcomes them in. Compassion listens and curiosity digs deeper.

These unpleasant emotions still sometimes show up when I’m listening to a subconscious belief that I haven’t recognised yet, one that doesn’t serve my growth and likely doesn’t even belong to me.

But when I choose to meet these moments with love and sit with these emotions (even just for a moment) a channel opens. The energy starts to flow into my subconscious. I can listen to the thoughts, and lean into the truth of what’s really going on. Only when you’ve seen it truthfully and allowed it to flow with love can you let it go.

And that’s where the healing happens.

Not by pushing through. But by listening.

Start small.

Start slow.

Grow.
